THE SILVER JUBILEE REUNION

The class of 1986 -BIM 01- came together for a reunion celebrating the 25th year of their passing out from the college. The senior most alumni of BIM had a chance to relive those golden days by having lunch at the mess. This was followed by an informal interaction with the incumbent batches, 27 and 28. Gracing the occasion were faculty members Dr. Vasudevan, Prof Richard Regis, Shri Sivaramakrishnan, Prof Pyarelal Arya, Founder-Director, the present Director Shri.N Bala Baskar and Shri A.V.Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL Trichy.

The reunion’s highlight was the address given by Srinivasa Raja, MD of Adyar Anandha Bhavan Sweets. A successful entrepreneur in his own right, he was invited as the chief guest for the day. He shared with the students his life experiences charting his days of humble beginnings from Rajapalayam, in southern Tamil Nadu to be where he is right now running a company of over 7000 employees.

ENHANCING ALUMNI INTERACTION

BIM Alumni Association recently appointed Shri S. Gnanasundaram as the head of its Alumni-Institution Interaction Committee. Currently working as an equity analyst at Spark Capital, Shri Gnansundaram belongs to the 23rd batch of BIM. He was in campus last Saturday to gather ideas from the students of batches 27 and 28 and the faculty members on enhancing the interaction between incumbent students and the alumni.

On the cards is a mentoring system where students would be assigned an alumnus to help them know about industry expectations and choose their career paths according to their strengths and weaknesses. He said that it is also meant to help candidates to prepare themselves to crack interviews. In line with this, he has planned another visit in early August to conduct mock interviews and group discussions. Also planned are monthly guest lectures by alumni occupying top positions in organizations of repute.

Earlier in the day, he delivered a lecture on Equity Research to PGP1 students before offering food for thought on how to make the most of a B-school life. Later in the afternoon, he interacted with PGP2 students, offering them advice on how to orient themselves with the expectations of the industry.

With alumni keen to give back to their alma mater, the Alumni-Institution interaction is an important step for BIM in the quest for continual excellence.

SANGAM 2011 – AN EVENING TO REMEMBER

SANGAM 2011, the flagship event of Kalaicom, was conducted in a grand manner on Saturday. Alumni from batches 24 and 25, who stayed on in the campus, could not have asked for more.

While some of the alumni unwound themselves on stage, unofficial student groups from the existing batches treated the audience to a variety of songs, dances and skits. The show began with the musical team of BIM, BIM Beats, consisting of BIM26 students, crooning popular numbers replete with instrumental music. This was followed by a dance show by three members of the same group. After that came the dance show of Velociraptors, another BIM26 group. The highlight of the evening was the Lilliput dance by Nakamukas, a group of BIM27 students, who dressed themselves as midgets and did a puppet dance, expertly synchronised from behind by another set of students. This was followed by a skit by the BIM27 group, Galacticos, and then a dance number on ‘Life @ BIM’ by the Bike Bhaiyyas.

In the interim between two events, various videos dedicated to BIM24 and 25 were played on the screen by the side of the stage. The event also provided a platform for Spirited26 and 27, the social responsibility club, to raise funds for their initiatives to which the alumni made generous contributions.

Most of the alumni stayed back on campus the next day and interacted with BIM26 and 27 students, helping them build useful social networks for life. When they left for their respective places, their hearts were heavy with fond memories from their two years of Life @ BIM which they relived the whole of Sunday. It was also a night that the existing batches would not forget for long. Above all, it is KALAICOM which would reflect on an occasion organised meticulously with careful planning.
